What is the difference between the "new Film GRAIN" feature marketed on Nik 5 website and the " formerly existing ones"?

This information applies to version(s): 5

The new "Film Grain" is based on measurements of real films using DxO Labs' great expertise with image processing. The shape and size of the grain, for instance, are taken from original films, making simulations much more realistic than was possible using Nik Collection's previous versions, which all used the same shape and only varied in their size and intensity.

  • Film Grain: simulations of analog film grain created by DxO and inherited from DxO FilmPack.
  • Film Types section: simulations of analog film created by Nik Software and inherited from the original Nik Collection suite.
