First of all, it should be remembered that in general, the term RAW when used for smartphone photography does not have the same exact meaning as RAW as it is understood with cameras.
In the case of current smartphones, it must be understood that to compensate for the technical limitations linked in particular to the extremely small size of the sensors and their photosites, the RAW files produced are not the raw data of a single shot, but an accumulation of ten to a hundred shots, taken in bursts, and undergoing a whole series of operations and treatments.
Although the name of the format suggests otherwise, Apple ProRAW for instance is already processed to a degree that restricts DxO PhotoLab’s processing options.
RAWs from digital cameras, on the contrary, still contain raw data, without processing, and as captured by the sensor.
This is why, for smartphones, it is currently impossible for us to access the raw information before processing, which unfortunately prevents us from applying full range of our advanced algorithms which guarantee unparalleled image quality.
