Photoshop CS6 no longer launches after installing Nik Collection 8 – what can I do? (Windows only)

This information applies to the latest version

After installing Nik Collection 8, Photoshop CS6 may no longer launch on Windows. The interface appears briefly before the screen goes black.

You do not need to uninstall Nik Collection to resolve this issue. Simply remove the plug-in manually from the Photoshop folder:

  • Close Photoshop CS6.
  • Open the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Plug-ins
  • Delete the Nik Collection 8 folder.
  • Relaunch Photoshop CS6.

After removing the plug-in, Photoshop CS6 should work as usual.

Currently, the Nik Collection 8 installer does not offer an option to exclude integration with Photoshop CS6.

Please note that Photoshop CS6 is no longer supported by Adobe and has not been officially compatible with Nik Collection since version 4. However, you can still use Nik Collection in standalone mode – or in combination with DxO PureRAW or DxO PhotoLab as host applications, if you prefer not to upgrade to a newer version of Photoshop.
