Why does DxO PhotoLab now export DNG files with only technical corrections?

This information applies to the latest version.

Since linear DNG files are designed to keep the image in the native color space of the camera sensor as well as retain the full dynamic range and editing flexibility of the original RAW data, embedding creative adjustments such as color or tone corrections is not consistent with this workflow.

DxO PhotoLab now provides a single linear DNG export option which includes the following corrections:

  • Demosaicing and denoising

  • Retouch

  • Optical Corrections (Lens Softness, Vignetting, Distortion, Chromatic Aberrations - requires DxO Module)

  • Perspective

  • Horizon

  • Crop

  • Red Eye correction

  • Volume deformation (requires DxO ViewPoint license)

  • Reshape (requires DxO ViewPoint license)

DNG files created with previous versions of DxO PhotoLab remain fully compatible with the current version. If you need to apply creative adjustments (color, tone, exposure, etc.) in DxO PhotoLab and continue editing in another software, we recommend exporting as 16-bit TIFF.

In addition, exporting to DNG now offers the following compression options:

  • Uncompressed
  • High-Fidelity compression

The High-Fidelity option significantly reduces file size while preserving image quality and retaining the file’s dynamic range and editing flexibility.
