Why might a RAW image appear over or under-exposed when compared to the same image's JPG version from the camera?

This information applies to all versions

Some cameras offer modes intended to improve the dynamic range of images. In these modes, cameras overexpose or underexpose the raw shot and then compensate for the exposure by applying a special tone curve. DxO PhotoLab is unaware of these modes and their special tone curves, it always applies the standard tone curve, and thus the image remains as overexposed or underexposed as the raw file actually is.
