Why might I see distortion differences between the RAW and JPG versions of an image?

This information applies to all versions

Some cameras apply optical correction to their JPG images, and usually, this is intended to compensate for the distortion. DxO PhotoLab doesn't apply the same corrections as the camera (usually the camera's corrections are not good enough), so there are three possibilities:

  1. The JPG image from the camera has correction applied.
  2. The RAW image processed in DxO PhotoLab (without an optics module) doesn't have that correction.
  3. The RAW image processed in Lightroom has the same correction as the JPG from the camera.

That's why we offer two modules for each lens: one module for RAW images and another for JPG images.

Distortion correction will by its nature remove parts of images and if necessary will apply a little zoom in order to completely remove black edges.
